Dunamu—Operator of Upbit—To Open Blockchain Research Institute

Lambda 256 will support the growth of blockchain technology.

Dunamu, the company behind one of the world’s biggest exchange platform, Upbit, announced on Thursday that it will open Lambda 256, a global blockchain research institute. The opening date and location have not yet been revealed.

The goal of Lambda 256 is to cultivate an environment by creating new blockchain technologies.

Dunamu plans to focus its efforts on the development of blockchain technology, the establishment of a next-generation blockchain platform, and the expansion on token economy models. Dunamu also plans to serve as a platform for global companies to exchange information, exchange ideas, and acquire talents.

Park Jae-hyun, former vice president of SK Telecom, has been hired to head the research center. Park was on the development team for Samsung Pay and Samsung ChatON messenger for Samsung Electronics. He worked on Hidden at SKT.

Park stated that they “will not hesitate to research, develop, and support [blockchain startups]” in order to grab the upper hand in the blockchain market.

Lambda 256 derives its names from the Lambda-CDM model and SHA-256.

Its first project will be Dunamu Blockchain Service (DBS). DBS will be a blockchain service platform similar to Amazon’s AWS, which provides features to users who want to develop their own blockchain-related services.
