US SEC solicits companies for blockchain data

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is seeking sources that can provide blockchain data to support its efforts on ensuring compliance and risk monitoring of digital assets.

In a statement issued on January 31, regulators said:

“The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is pursuing sources to determine the technical capability of large and small businesses to provide blockchain data in support of the SEC’s efforts to monitor risk, improve compliance, and inform policy with respect to digital assets.”

According to the statement, the SEC intends to acquire “data for the most widely used blockchain ledgers, including the universe of available information and transaction details.”

In addition to the vendor’s ability to provide the requested data, it is also interested in knowing “an overview of the processes used to extract data, convert the data into a readable format, and the verification steps ensuring there is no loss in data completeness and accuracy due to the data transformation tools and processes applied.”

Those interested can send their responses to the regulator by February 14, 2019.
